To The Beat Of My Own Drum

The time is just past 6 a.m.  As I scroll through the internet with one eye open while the other adjusts, my current obsession is finding the perfectly scented hand soap for my master bathroom.  Why, because I'm a huge scent freak and googling weird things at odd hours is simply what I do.  My mind never stops, the wheels in my brain turn faster than a hamster chasing his long-lost love on a never ending wheel of doom.

My days have been running together in no proper fashion for the past six months.  A full on collision of mayhem and boxes.  The two go together like popcorn and fried eggs.  And yet there is someone somewhere eating that very weird combination as I type this.  I've had quite the adventure with my new home and decided to summarize things in chronological order for my friends on Facebook.  Today I will share my story here, with all of you to raise an eyebrow at me, call me crazy, laugh with me, or at me.  At the end of my story, if for any reason you feel sorry for me, yes I will accept your generous donations.  😇

The Good Things

We all know there are certain things best served in moderation, maybe small doses, and perhaps not at all.  However, we indulge anyway.  Determined to believe if no one sees you that it really doesn't count as a 'bad thing'.  Taking it a step further by convincing yourself that it won't hurt if it's just this one time.  The problem with that theory is, once is typically never enough, especially if it feels good while you are doing it.

There are daily reminders all around us of the things we shouldn't say, do, or feel, so I dare not bore you with any more of that.  I am here to remind you of all the good things and just how wonderfully splendid and magical they are.

  1.  Singing in the shower
  2.  Paying it forward
  3.  Cuddling
  4.  Believing in yourself
  5.  Positive vibes
  6.  Self-care days
  7.  Telling someone how much you care
  8.  Reminiscing with friends
  9.  Binging on your favorite series
10.  Dancing naked
11.  Turning the music up
12.  Asking someone out on a date
13.  Taking a leap of faith
14.  Holding the door for a stranger
15.  Telling him/her you like them
16.  Playing dress up
17.  Cooking together
18.  Hugs
19.  Volunteering
20.  PDA
21.  Reminding yourself how amazing you are
22.  Taking cooking classes
23.  Starting a DIY project
24.  Learning to say no
25.  Taking more selfies
26.  Exploring your city
27.  Keeping a journal
28.  Spraying on your favorite perfume/cologne before bed
29.  Laughing at yourself
30.  Loving the skin you are in

This picture is a refrigerator magnet I have had for years.  I see it every single day and always smile at the words and how they make me feel.  I've spent the better part of my young adult years learning that it doesn't have to be the biggest and boldest to be the greatest and most memorable.   It's the journey and joy in all of it for me.

This list is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.  I know because I have done them all.  So, whatever your 'good thing' is, do it till you satisfied.

The Thrill Is Gone

The year is flying by!  Although we are still enjoying what is left of the summer months, fall is quickly approaching.  If you blink twice it will all become a blur and your mind will begin to wonder why it all went by so fast.  Preparations have begun to return the children to school, either virtually or from the comforts of home, it's familiar normalcy that strangely enough feels fantastic.  It's what you know.  Also known as the 'same ole same'.  The day-to-day routines become so insanely repetitive you could easily do it all with your eyes closed while juggling a multitude of responsibilities.  Is that really a good thing?  Well, honestly, it depends on which day you ask that loaded question.

As comforting as your routine has become, there is something that doesn't feel quite right.  It's typically during the quiet times when you can sit back and exhale that you realize it has been far too long since you and your significant other have truly taken time to enjoy one another.  The morning meet-ups in the shower, the warm kisses before you both leave to start your day and the ever so gentle (or not) squeezes that make you bite your lip and prep for what is to come later.  The mid-day texts telling you how beautiful you looked even when you know your hair was a whole entire hot mess.  The sweet and sexy voice messages you left him while he was in a meeting.  Yeah, all of that and then some.  Where did it all go and how do you find it again?   Let's see if we can find out!
